The Long Wait Is Over

Akira came to Halfway Hounds in December of 2010 and has been in our program longer than any other dog! 

Akira wasn’t the easiest dog to find a family for.  She exhibited severe separation anxiety, had trouble adjusting to a house and crate and was aggressive toward other dogs. Akira moved to her second foster home in April with Jamie and Patty, a couple from Goshen, New York,  They have  had German Shepherds in the past.   Akira needed and wanted to be told what to do and they helped her get there.  Did I mention that they are marathon runners?

Akira has made incredible strides in her new home.   Her fosters take her running, to events, walks with other dogs and training.  They have been able to reduce Akira’s anxiety, and get her socialized.  As they worked with Akira they saw what was possible. 

We are so pleased to report that Patty and Jamie have decided to adopt Akira! We couldn’t be happier for all of them.  Akira is in a great home with great people who are giving her what she needs. Time is on her side.     ~Carl Zive

ADOPTION LISTING

Akira is a friendly, beautiful four-year-old purebred German Shepherd dog. She was given-up by an owner facing hardship.

Akira has a very sweet disposition and loves everyone she meets. She is generous with kisses and likes to stay by your side.

Akira is very obedient and loves to go for walks and jobs with her foster family. Akira does have separation anxiety and needs an owner willing to follow training program we are currently using which is working for her. Akira would also love agility or to work as a search and rescue dog.

Akira is 60 pounds, up-to-date on her vaccines, spayed and in good health. She has a medium length coat and soft, light brown eyes.

Akira lived with two other shepherds at her previous home, however she has not tested well with other dogs.  She would do best as the only dog in the home.  She has a high prey drive and needs a home without cats or other animals.

Complimentary training sessions will be provided by Halfway Hounds.
