Can you give a helpless dog from a shelter a temporary, loving home to stay in?

BECOME A FOSTER

altWe are looking for fosters to help us rehabilitate, train and nurture these rescued dogs. Fostering can last from two to six weeks. After a two week quarantine period, most dogs can be moved to a kennel if you can no longer keep them in your home. All dogs are safe to handle. All food, medical and other expenses are covered. You will get full 24/7 support from Halfway Hounds during your foster experience. Please give a dog a chance to know what a home environment is really like.

WHAT'S INVOLVED IN BEING A FOSTER?

You are ready to foster if…

  • Your own pets are up-to-date on vaccinations
  • Your own pets have been spayed/neutered
  • You have adequate space (crates are highly recommended)
  • You agree to keep your foster dogs as indoor pets
  • You are ready to make a time commitment to each foster dog from day 1 through adoption
  • You agree to follow the policies, procedures and guidelines that have been set for Halfway Hounds foster volunteers

Here is how foster care works:

  1. Halfway Hounds receives a dog directly from a shelter or surrendered by an owner.
  2. Foster homes are called.  If we contact you to foster an animal and you cannot do it for any reason, we will find another foster home and call you the next time. It's always okay to say you are not available.
  3. The dog is transported to the foster home and lives there until they are transferred to a kennel or adopted. You will need to make the pet available to meet with families interested in adopting.

"Halfway Hounds completed our family.  They are a loving, caring group of individuals who do a tremendous job in finding the perfect forever home for their rescue dogs and acclimating them to their new home providing you with all the support you need.  We feel so fortunate that Isadora is a part of our family.  Thank you Halfway Hounds."-Foster Kim C. 2/27/10
