COMPLIMENTARY DOG TRAINING SEMINAR: Leash Walking 10/22 at 7pm PDF Print E-mail

Halfway Hounds and People for Animals offer a
COMPLIMENTARY DOG TRAINING SEMINAR: Leash Walking
Open to the Public

Park Ridge, NJ (October 3, 2009) – Halfway Hounds, a nonprofit dog rescue (www.halfwayhounds.com), and People for Animals are offering a free dog training seminar open to the public. The seminar will be held on Tuesday, October 22, 2009 from 7-8pm at People for Animals, 401 Hillside Avenue, Hillside, New Jersey. The seminar will include thirty minutes of detailed instruction from Dog Behaviorist Carl Zive. Zive will teach participants how to get their dog to cooperate on the leash, how to stop pulling and follow rather than lead. He will also demonstrate out how to correct other similar behavior issues like jumping, pulling and lunging.  The thirty minute seminar is followed by a question and answer period and includes handouts to take home.

“Behavior issues are one of the top reasons people surrender or abandon their dogs,” says Lynn Gregorski, President of Halfway Hounds. “Part of our mission is to help educate the public on how to properly train their dogs. With the economy being so bad, many people simply can’t afford to hire a trainer right now. We hope through this program and others, we can give people a chance to learn some techniques they can apply at home.”

The seminar will cover how to get your dog to walk calmly on the leash and includes:
-Reduce pulling and lunging
-Walking at a relaxed pace
-Greeting other animals and people properly
-Corrections to make when your dog gets distracted
-When your dog puts on the “brakes”
-The proper way to leave your house for a walk
-Tips for walking large and small dogs

This seminar is for people only. Pre-registration is recommended by calling PFA at 973-282-0890 or by registering online at www.HalfwayHounds.com.

Halfway Hounds is a new 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, launched in April 2009, with a mission to provide homeless dogs with the training they need to become adoptable pets.
